VISA – TWX*MAGAZINE ORDER

Routine maintenance used to be something tied to lawnmowers, automobiles, furnaces, and septic tanks.  If you make purchases online, you should also add your bank account to that list.

Today I logged into my PNC Bank account online and noticed something that didn’t make sense.  The transaction was simply titled: VISA – TWX*MAGAZINE ORDER.

Having used mint.com for the past 7 months, I have a very good understanding of the descriptions used to identify transactions that Jenn and I normally process.  This type of transaction is a huge red flag.

A quick google search allows anyone to see that this is an unauthorized transaction – and this is the 4th time in less than a year that I’ve had to call PNC to dispute the charge.  Every time has been successful, and my account is credited.

But the real question is…

What the hell is happening?  Maybe I purchased flowers, and forgot to click on a box to negate preauthorized use of my card in the future.

What?

Maybe I purchased flowers, and forgot to click on a box to negate preauthorized use of my card in the future.

Ridiculous, for sure – but this is the reality of purchasing online, taking up trial offers, and running routine maintenance on your bank accounts.  Embrace the technology that is out there and use it to your advantage.

PNC is going to dispute the charge on my behalf and send out a new debit card in order to prevent this from happening again in the future.  If required, I will gladly jump into the trench warfare and call 877-813-4977 to clear this up.  If that happens I will be sure to record the conversation.
